Schools stay close in 'gas room' Delhi

new delhi - Schools in Delhi remain closed for the rest of the week because of the suffocating smog. The regional authorities described the situation in the Indian capital area rather as a 'gas chamber' and said children did not want to expose themselves to risks.

The World Health Organization (WHO) named New Delhi in 2014 the most polluted capital in the world, worse than the Beijing as well-known. The authorities closed the schools earlier this week due to the high concentration of particulate matter in the air.

The national authorities are also involved in the matter. The Federal Ministry of Health advised people with respiratory problems and children to stay indoors. Also strenuous activities that lead to accelerated breathing are not recommended.
