School ball gets out of control by drunken students

According to the owner of the Hof van Nassau, Gregory Schiettecatte, the evening started off just fine. 'The ball was organized exemplarily by six-year-olds. For the actual ball there was a reception with the parents and then pupils from other Zottegem schools arrived, about three hundred in total. The atmosphere remained friendly for about 2 hours ', he says to Het Nieuwsblad.

He continues: 'Then some students had clearly drunk too much. Some people took extra drinks from our cold store without asking and others pissed off in our flower beds. Glasses were thrown out. We even caught a student who was urinating in our cold store. '

Schiettecatte decided, together with the teachers, to point out the pupils, but that did not really help. 'It got out of hand. When one of the students with a bottle of cava broke a window, I locked the door to oblige the pupils to say who the perpetrator was. I also called in the police, but he could not do much without the perpetrator making himself known. This only happened the next day through one of the teachers. '

The damage has already been compensated, but of course he does not want to experience this again. 'I do not think that I will still allow parties with students here. It's a shame that those few people ruined it for the organizing students because the only thing I blame them about is that there was no security. We had agreed on that. '

The director of the school involved confirms the story. 'The security has called off at the last minute', he says. 'That could have happened a lot, but of course nothing talks about the behavior of the drunken students. '
