Scarcity of rosé in the summer: price is rising

World May 21, 2018 11:57

paris - Disappointing harvests in France threaten to cause a shortage of rosé this summer. The popular type of wine can, according to reports from French media, increase prices by 20 to 30 percent. France, by far the largest producer, exporter and consumer of this wine, saw the yield of the year 2017 fall by more than 10 percent.

In the past fifteen years, the demand for French rosé has increased by more than 30 percent. The bad harvest means that far fewer bottles of this drink can be offered this summer. Provence, for example, where one in five exported French rosés come from, this year produces only 155 million bottles, 20 million fewer than in the previous season.
