Several companies and organizations also adorn the sanction list because they are guilty of undermining Western democracies.

US Secretary of State Steve Mnuchin said in an explanation that the Russian government is engaged in malicious activities around the world. He mentioned, among other things, the occupation of the Crimea and the incitement to violence in Eastern Ukraine.

Furthermore, according to him, Russia is guilty of arming the Assad regime in Syria. And according to him, these weapons are used against Syrian civilians. Mnuchin also pointed to Russian cyber activities.
