World April 30, 2018 17:03

moscow - Thousands of people have demonstrated in Moscow against the blockade of messaging app Telegram. 'Putin's regime declared war on the internet and the free society. So we have to support Telegram here, 'said one of the demonstrators.

Russian media reports that between 7,000 and 12,000 people participated in the protest action. They chanted slogans against President Vladimir Putin. They also threw symbolically with paper airplanes, a reference to the logo of the message app.

The Russian authorities have been trying to block Telegram since April 16. The authorities had demanded that secret service FSB should get the keys to read the encrypted messages from Telegram users. Telegram refused to give it up, after which a court gave the green light for a blockade of the app.
