moscow - Russian President Vladimir Putin has allowed civilian airlines to carry out flights to Cairo again. The Russian authorities announced it on Thursday, even though the decision came into effect on 2 January.
Russia stopped air traffic to Egypt after the bloody attack on a plane in November 2015. Then a bomb exploded in a Russian passenger plane that had left the seaside resort of Sharm-el-Sheikh. The 224 people on board did not survive.
The attack and the suspension of air traffic were a blow to the tourist industry in the North African country. Moscow has demanded that the Egyptians raise the security measures. According to news agency TASS, this was a condition for resuming air traffic to the Egyptian capital.
