moscow - More than 105,000 civilians have left the East Ghouta region since the government forces launched a new offensive against Syrian rebel enclaves more than a month ago.

According to the Russian news agency RIA evacuations take place during so-called humanitarian breaks. On the authority of President Vladimir Putin, the most important ally of Syria, there is a cease-fire every day for five hours and a 'humanitarian corridor' is opened to give citizens the chance to escape.

Approximately 90 percent of East Ghouta is now in the hands of the government troops.
