Riots do not stop Greek reforms

athens - The Greek parliament has adopted a package of reforms Monday despite massive protests and riots in the capital Athens and Thessaloniki. Among other things, the right to strike was restricted, which led to opposition from, among others, trade unions. The riot police acted with batons and tear gas when the demonstrations got out of hand. Rioters threw paint bombs, stones and fireworks.

As a result of the reforms that were needed to get European support, it is now only possible to stop if at least half of the employees voted for it. That limit was one fifth of the staff and in some cases even a fifth of the trade union members at a company were already sufficient.

In addition, certain closed professional groups are thrown open. There will also be a new electronic process for the expropriation of homes for which the mortgage has not been paid.
