Review: LG G5

- Although the company has to surrender the last few years of market share to the newer Chinese smartphone makers, LG has launched a number of very powerful devices. The G5 is the latest flagship, which seeks to conquer the hearts of Android enthusiasts. The device also has a unique gimmick...

Hardware

The G5 design is sober call. The device has a metal shell with the now standard standby button on the back for LG concepts. This button is also the fingerprint scanner that allows the device to unlock. In addition, there are not one, but two cameras. One is a 16 megapixel camera with a 'normal' lens, while next to an 8 megapixel camera with a wide angle lens. The camera app to switch between the two modes. It should be said: the angle is most often useful, especially if you are somewhere in and want to create an overall picture of the room from an angle.

The screen is wonderfully bright and clear, thanks to the resolution of 1440 by 2560 pixels. Furthermore, the device includes a powerful Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of storage memory, expandable with a microSD card. The device performs particularly well. Apps load quickly and even graphic heavy games are no problem for the phone. The complete list of specifications can be found here.

Software

The G5 comes standard with Android OS 6. 0. Like all manufacturers, LG has also created its own version of the software, with the main difference being that there is no separate app screen next to the home screens. Personally, I think not a great design choice: I think it's just convenient that all apps crammed and I can decorate the home screens themselves with apps and widgets. Anyway, from the Play Store is easy to download another so-called launcher, making it no longer a problem. And then you yourself LG apps- such as a manager or friends own music app- throwing good in a folder and use your own favorite applications.

Unique

The uniqueness of the G5 is that the bottom can be disconnected. To do this simply need to press a special button, and soil including battery comes loose. This makes it a great device for the traveler on the move who want to take an extra battery. But the hole is also an accessory (or 'Friend' as LG calls them his Korean) slide. The company comes with camera grip with built-in buttons, so that- theoretically- better pictures can be taken and a so-called DAC. Which stands for digital-to-analogue converter, which is the sound quality improves.

A very sympathetic idea. Unfortunately, the Friends were not available for review and a real assessment of the benefit I can not even sheets. Well I must say that it is unfortunate that there are only two specific accessores. Something like a game controller would surely be a piece of cake! But that could of course in the future.

Conclusion

The LG G5 (€ 699) is rightly called an attractive, high. The machine is fast, beautiful screen, the camera is good and the angle is a nice extra. The removable battery makes the phone a certain group of people already a must-buy, but also for the rest LG does not have to be ashamed. Just a pity that own Android version still change too much to the original. Nevertheless, a great device to keep them out of it a few years.
