brussels - The European Ombudsman shall examine the way in which the European Commission assesses conflicts of interest in the appointment of consultants.

The European Commission has about forty Special Advisers. They bring a lot of experience with it, but many of them have interests which may raise questions about their independence, Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly suggested Monday.
