guatemala city - The authorities in Guatemala temporarily halted the search for survivors at the volcano Fuego. It is currently too dangerous to carry out rescue work there, said a spokesperson for the National Emergency Response Coordination (CONRED).
Because of the volcanic eruption, at least a hundred people have been killed since Sunday, reports the police. Two hundred people are missing. The eruptions covered surrounding villages with volcanic ash.
Rescue workers searched feverishly for bodies and survivors in recent days. According to CONRED, the search can be resumed if conditions improve.
