hodeida - A large fire destroyed several sheds in the Yemeni port city of Hodeida in which relief supplies were stored. According to eyewitnesses, the warehouses of the World Food Program, among other things, went up in flames.

'The fire destroyed huge amounts of fuel and humanitarian aid and foodstuffs,' confirms a member of the UN organization. In the sheds, among other things, mattresses would have been stored that were destined for people who had been displaced by the war. According to the World Food Program, the cause of the fire is being investigated.

The port is in the hands of Houthi rebels who are fighting against a Saudi Arabian-led coalition of countries. Hodeida is located on the Red Sea and is an important port of entry for humanitarian goods. About three-quarters of the population in Yemen needs humanitarian aid according to the UN.
