helsinki - Russian President Putin has arrived in Helsinki with some delay for the first US-Russian summit of him and his counterpart Donald Trump in 2017.

Putin, according to a Kremlin spokesman, counts on a successful summit. 'They respect each other and can talk to each other well,' said the spokesperson. Discussion topics are not only the relations between Syria, Iran and Ukraine. The summit is overshadowed by the announcement by the US justice department on Friday that staff from a Russian secret service in 2016 would have entered the computer systems of the Democratic Party.

The summit is in the presidential palace in Helsinki, a building from the nineteenth century that once served as a palace for the Russian tsar. Finland became independent from Russia a hundred years ago.

The two presidents are expected to hold a press conference at 3.50 pm. Their foreign ministers also came to the palace.
