brussels - The stay of Carles Puigdemont in Belgium can go into the papers, because according to the Belgian business newspaper L'Echo he is going to rent a pricey villa in the Belgian town of Waterloo.

The Catalan leader would have to pay 4400 euros per month for the 550 square meter building.

For that money Puigdemont has a house with six rooms, three bathrooms, a sauna and a garage with space for four cars. According to L'Echo, he is going to live in the villa with wife and children and perhaps also some advisors.

Puigdemont took the district to Belgium at the end of October. He is wanted in Spain for a series of offenses committed when he, as a regional prime minister, wanted to separate Catalonia from Spain through an illegal referendum.

The parliament of Catalonia put Puigdemont forward as candidate for leadership after regional elections in December. Separatist parties won the majority in the regional parliament in that ballot box. The central government in Madrid then challenged Puigdemont's candidacy to the Constitutional Court.
