Puigdemont: greatest lie has now been disproved
schleswig - The former Catalan regional prime minister Carles Puigdemont is pleased that Germany will not extradite him for rebellion. 'This invalidates the most important lie of the state. The German judiciary disputes that the independence referendum of 1 October was rebellion ', wrote the separatist leader on Twitter.
The court in the state of Schleswig-Holstein ruled that Puigdemont can only be extradited to Spain because of the misappropriation of government money. He would have put tax money into an illegal referendum on independence. The Spanish justice actually wanted to prosecute him for a more serious offense: rebellion.
Puigdemont had fled the country after the referendum. The Spanish authorities arrested several separatists who were left behind. 'Every minute our associates spend in prison is a minute of shame and injustice,' Puigdemont tweeted. 'We will fight until the end. And we will conquer. '
The politician does not seem to resign himself to his extradition. Sources within his legal team told El PaĆs newspaper that they are planning to go to the German Constitutional Court. The Belgian lawyer of Puigdemont also said that his client is still appealing.
