the hague - The prosecutor at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague wants to find out if Americans have committed war crimes in Afghanistan. According to the court she has asked permission to start an investigation.

Chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda stated that there is reason to believe that several parties in the country have committed serious offenses. She mentioned, among other things, the Taliban and security services, but also the American forces and intelligence service CIA.

According to the prosecutor, the Americans may have been guilty of war crimes in secret prisons in Afghanistan or in other countries that have joined the court. These alleged offenses would have occurred mainly in 2003 and 2004.

The United States did not join the ICC, but Afghanistan did. As a result, it could be investigated whether Americans were guilty of crimes in the country that the court could consider.
