Prestigious Cornell University under attack by 'Pig Roast'

World February 7, 2018 15:45

new york - The prestigious university of Cornell from New York has been seriously challenged by their own student association. The youngsters of Zeta Beta Tau held a 'competition' among the members, called the Pig Roast. In this, the students kept track of the number of students with whom they crawled into bed and what weight they had.

The male student society decided to start the Pig Roast on its own initiative. New members had to report when they had shared the bed with a student, because this yielded points for the 'sex list'. In the case of a tie with another student, they looked at 'who had shared the bed with the biggest partner'. According to The New York Post there was an omerta about the Pig Roast at the Zeta Beta Tau.

A university newspaper, however, brought the matter to light. The management had already received several reports last year and therefore started an investigation. 'Disgusting behavior that dehumanizes women and contributes to a climate in which sexual abuse is tolerated,' said Ryan Lombardi, Cornell vice-rector.

The management of the Kappa department, which includes Zeta Beta Tau, says it never knew. 'The accusations described are in conflict with the values and norms that we embrace as Zeta Beta Tau. We will not fail to identify those responsible and throw them out of the club. '

Cornell, with more than 20,000 students, belongs to the Ivy League: the eight elite universities of the United States. The club is now under supervision of the university from now on for two years. Members will be obliged to participate in two workshops on sexual violence.
