President Italy appoints scout

rome - Italian President Sergio Mattarella has called on the President of the Senate to speed up the search for a new government. Maria Casellati was invited to sit down with the parties to see who could cooperate.

In the talks about a new coalition government there is as yet no shot. The election of 4 March did not produce a clear winner. The Five Star Movement (M5S) became the largest party, but the occasional association of center right and the right-wing populist Lega received a total of more votes.

Mattarella gave the Senate President an 'exploratory mandate' and asked her to report by Friday at the latest. Casellati belongs to the party of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, Forza Italia. In principle, the Five Star Movement and the Lega have enough seats to rule together, but M5S feels nothing for cooperation with the center-right party of Berlusconi.
