Premier Slovakia clears field in crisis

bratislava - The 42-year-old Peter Pellegrini has become the new head of government in Slovakia. He was already deputy prime minister and succeeds Robert Fico, who has cleared the field due to the political crisis that arose after the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancé.

Kuciak (27) investigated links between the Italian mafia and government circles, where EU money would have been misused.

President Andrej Kiska of Slovakia agreed that Fico might elect his successor. That is why there are no early elections. Fico does not disappear from the scene, because he remains party leader.
