Pope lets sexual abuse investigate Chile

World January 30, 2018 17:09

vatican city - Pope Francis sends a confidant to Chile to get an explanation of the behavior of Juan Barros, the bishop of Osorno. This is accused of having protected a pedophile priest who has taken care of minors. The Pope recently received considerable criticism during his visit to the South American country about his handling of that case of sexual abuse.

The Vatican said on Tuesday that Charles Scicluna, the archbishop of Malta, goes to Santiago to hear from victims what happened to them. Scicluna is one of the highest clergy to punish and ban sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.

Francis held up to the Bishop of Osorno earlier this month because there was no evidence for his involvement. He apologized for his choice of words during the return flight to Rome. The Chilean victims claim that Barros knew of the wrongs and that he was even present when they were abused by the priest. This has been found guilty.
