rome - Pope Francis wants to examine in the future women can take on the role of deacon (servant) in the Roman Catholic Church. He said this Thursday when receiving nine hundred women from all continents within the Roman Catholic Church, who received the Pope in audience.

Deacons are not priests, but perform numerous social tasks within the Roman Catholic Church. The deacons are ordained and stand in rank below that of priests and bishops. The Roman Catholic Church has long talked about the consecration of women as deacons.
