Police will stop Pegida demo in Cologne

cologne - The German police Saturday in Cologne a resolute end to a demonstration of anti-Islam movement Pegida and the extreme-right party Pro Köln. With a water cannon hundreds of demonstrators were dispersed. The police came into action after being pelted with bottles and firecrackers.


         In the riots is a journalist injured. Also, people would have suffered cuts in their face. An unknown number of demonstrators arrested.
A counter-demonstration of about 2500 people, mostly women, against racism and sexism proved significantly more peaceful.
Police were out in force at the square in front of the Cologne central station. There were about 1700 agents on the leg.
The reason for the protests was the mass rape on New Year's night. More than 170 women were robbed at the station, assaulted or even raped by a crowd of men, among whom certainly eighteen seekers.
Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday that asylum seekers who break the law should be deported quickly. This alone would be able to if the person concerned is sentenced to a suspended sentence.
