london - The fight against pirate attacks at sea seems to get success. The International Maritime Bureau (IMB) last year recorded 246 attacks by pirates. That is only one more than the previous year, when the number in eight years fell to the lowest level.

In 203 cases, the pirates came on board last year, in one case a crew member was slain, reported the London based agency Tuesday.

In Somalia, where four years ago were 230 pirate attacks, there is not one reported in 2015. Already in 2014 only eleven attacks on ships were attributed to Somali pirates. Nevertheless, the region remains an area of high risk, the IMB warned. The body registers pirate attacks since 1992.

The number of ship hijackings has also decreased. In 2015 fifteen ships were hijacked, six fewer than a year earlier. In 2013 still eleven cases were recorded. Since August 2015 there are no more ship hijackings seen.
