Philips helps expectant mothers in Indonesia

- Philips is in the Indonesian province of West Sumatra deliver tools that can reduce the number of deaths among pregnant women. Therefore an agreement with regional authorities, Philips reported on Thursday without going into financial details.

Philips provides a service that allows midwives in remote areas via smartphone apps data from pregnant women can share with physicians in the larger hospitals in Indonesia. For example with data on weight, blood pressure and body temperature of expectant mothers risk cases can be noticed early and receive better guidance. Indonesia is struggling, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) with a relatively high number of deaths among pregnant women.

Philips expects to introduce the service 'mobile obstetrics monitoring (MOM), later this year in India, Africa and elsewhere in Indonesia.
