kabul - American Vice President Mike Pence makes an unannounced visit to Afghanistan. He speaks to the Afghan leaders in the capital Kabul.

President Trump introduced him four months ago. Pence repeats in Afghanistan the message of his boss: the Americans remain faithful to their mission and the Afghan affair. His visit must underline that endeavor.

Pence arrived Thursday evening by military plane at Bagram airport. From there it went by helicopter to the capital, where he met President Ashraf Ghani in the presidential palace.

Currently there are about 11,000 American soldiers in Afghanistan and that number is growing, as Trump already promised last summer. The Americans have their hands full with the Afghans in fighting the Taliban terrorists.
