damascus - The peace talks in Geneva between the Syrian government and the opposition will continue on 16 May. That said UN mediator Staffan de Mistura Monday.

In a statement, De Mistura expressed the hope that the agreement reached last week between Russia, Iran and Turkey on the escalation zones was fully met.

The Syrian minister Walid al-Moualem (Foreign Affairs) said Monday that there is little scarce in the peace talks on Syria held in Geneva under the auspices of the United Nations.

The governor stated at a press conference that local 'reconciliation agreements' with rebels are a good alternative to the peace talks in Switzerland. Such deals are not undisputed. According to the opposition, they are forced to the population by means of siege techniques.

Moualem further said that the Syrian government will adhere to agreements on so-called de-escalation zones created during the peace talks in Astana. The condition is, among other things, that the rebels in the areas help to expel jihadist groups.

According to Moualem, the UN and 'international troops' do not have a role in the de-escalation zones. The minister said that Russia had promised that the military police would act as observers. He did not deal with it in detail.
