Paris closes stations due to high water

World January 23, 2018 16:12

paris - The high water level in the Seine interferes with part of the train traffic in Paris. The government has decided to close a number of stations on the popular RER C line on Wednesday. These include the stops Saint-Michel / Notre-Dame and Musée d'Orsay.

The French capital has been in trouble since the beginning of this month, causing a number of streets close to the river. The newspaper Le Parisien reported that the Seine is 4.89 meters above the normal level on Tuesday afternoon. The expectation is that it will rise in the coming days, up to 6 meters on Friday. The chief of police has informed the residents of the entire Ile de France region that the greatest danger is due to the danger of flooding.

The management of the Louvre follows the developments closely. In June 2016 the water rose to 6.10 meters. The world-famous museum on the river bank then had to rush the valuable art treasures from the cellars to higher floors. The highest level ever measured in the Seine was 8.62 meters in 1910.
