OM Sweden: lifelong for attack with truck

stockholm - The Swedish Public Prosecution Service wants a life sentence for the suspect of an attack with a truck in Stockholm. 'This crime is so serious that only the maximum sentence is sufficient,' said Prosecutor Hans Ihrman. The lawsuit against the man starts next month.

The 39-year-old Uzbek suspect has announced that he drove a stolen truck on pedestrians in a shopping street last year. The authorities had previously rejected an asylum request from the man. He had stated in online conversations that he wanted to hit 'infidels', according to the OM.

The attack killed five people, including an eleven-year-old girl. The attacker had hijacked the truck at a restaurant in the Swedish capital. He drove people about a half mile away with the vehicle, which then collided with a department store.
