- The authorities in Rio de Janeiro this weekend have announced measures against the spread of the zikavirus. The Brazilian city is doing that because of the Olympics being held in the country in August.

The zikavirus caused great unrest in the world, because it could lead to pregnant women in major damage to the brains of the unborn baby. The virus is spread by a tropical mosquito species.

All Olympic facilities will be starting four months before the opening of the Games in Rio thoroughly checked and all the places where mosquitoes might cleaned houses. During the Games, these checks and cleaning operations are performed daily.

The authorities Sunday announced that it will work only with pesticides. The Brazilian Ministry of Health points out that according to the BBC in August in Rio de Janeiro generally cooler and drier than other times of the year. Therefore is expected to occur relatively few insects are active.
