Oldest son Fidel Castro commits suicide

havana - The eldest son of the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro, Fidel Castro Diaz-Balart, committed suicide on Thursday. He had been treated for a long time because of depression, the Cuban state media reported.

The 68-year-old Castro Junior, who was also known as 'Fidelito', because he looked so much like his father, was previously admitted to a hospital for his depression. He is the only son from the first marriage of the former Cuban leader and his first wife Mirtha Diaz-Balart. He served as a scientific adviser to the government and was vice-president of the Cuban Academy of Sciences.

Fidel Castro was the undisputed leader of Cuba from 1959 to 2006. Then his brother Raúl Castro took over the lead. Fidel Castro died on November 25, 2016 at the age of 90.
