damascus - The Syrian civil war took the lives of over half a million people in seven years. This was calculated by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the United Kingdom, which receives information from local sources.
The observatory said that about 511,000 deaths have occurred. In about 85 per cent of the cases it concerned people who were killed by government troops or their allies, according to the organization.
