Nusra Front elects new name

- The Islamic rebel group Nusra Front has chosen a new name and is no longer the Syrian branch of al Qaeda.

Leader Abu Mohamad al-Golani said militia fighting in the first instance against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, now as Jabhat Fatah al Sham will go through life. According to him, the international community by this change no longer launch attacks under the pretext of links with al-Qaeda.

The United States has branded Nusra Front as a terrorist organization, which therefore was excluded from the ceasefire in February and who is not welcome in any peace talks.
