pyongyang - Only one day before the Olympic Winter Games begin in South Korea, North Korea holds a military parade in its own country.

The politburo designated Monday 8 February 1948 as the founding date of the People's Republic and wants to dwell on that seventieth anniversary.

According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, 13,000 soldiers and two hundred items of equipment were seen at an airport near the North Korean capital Pyongyang, possibly for an exercise for the parade.

During the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, North and South Korean athletes run under a joint flag.
