- The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday appointed a non-lawyer to be the chief prosecutor to tackle corruption in the country. It involves Yuriy Lutsenko, an ally of President Petro Poroshenko.

Loetsenko (51) is a former interior minister and leader of Porosjenko's party in the Ukrainian parliament. Prior to his appointment had to be adapted to the law, which requires a lawyer with a university degree and legal experience in that post. Therefore, his nomination was rejected two days ago.

According to western observers, the appointment is crucial to tackle the widespread corruption in the country. Some MPs called,, shame '' when the appointment was a fact. According Porosjenko Loetsenko will increase the public confidence in the prosecution. Loetsenko is the third highest prosecutor appointed in two years. His two predecessors were dismissed after a short time.
