'No sanctions against Russia for now'

moscow - The US government has informed Russia that it does not have to fear new punitive measures for the time being. 'I can confirm that the US has informed the Russian embassy that there will be no new sanctions for the time being', said a source within the Russian Foreign Ministry against news agency TASS.

The US UN ambassador Nikki Haley had said Sunday that her country was preparing new sanctions against Russia. The diplomate said the sanctions would affect companies dealing with the Syrian government and the use of chemical weapons.

Her announcement, President Donald Trump, was reportedly in the wrong. He said he had made no decision about new punitive measures, an insider told The New York Times. The newspaper reports that the White House had already informed people on Saturday that new sanctions were indeed being made due to the Russian support to Assad.
