caracas - Nicolás Maduro remains, as already predicted, the president of Venezuela for the next six years. This was announced by the election committee of the country. The incumbent president received 5.8 million votes (67 percent). His main opponent Henri Falcón had to do with 1.8 million votes (21 percent).
The attendance percentage was just over 46 percent. 8.6 million Venezuelans cast their vote. At the last elections in 2015, 80 percent of voters still showed up.
The ballot box was largely boycotted by the opposition. Javier Bertucci, one of the opponents of Maduro who participated and finished third with a small million votes, made an appeal to declare the elections invalid. According to him, there were a lot of irregularities. For example, at many polling stations, Maduro employees were campaigning, which is against the rules.
