peshawar - Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud is the new leader of the Taliban in Pakistan. He is the successor of Mullah Fazlullah. It was killed by an air raid in the Afghan province of Kunar, not far from the border with Pakistan.

Fazlullah had appointed Mehsud in February as a right hand. In a statement, the Pakistani Taliban acknowledged for the first time on Saturday that Fazlullah died and that Mehsud is their new leader.

Last week, the Afghan government reported that Fazlullah had been killed by a joint action by the Afghans and Americans. Mullah Fazlullah reportedly ordered the murder attempt on the young activist Malala Yousafzai, who later won the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Americans had promised a $ 5 million reward for information about the Taliban leader.
