- Netherlands has helped in the transfer of money between the United States and Iran. The transaction took place in stages and involved a sum of 1.3 billion US dollars (about 1.15 billion euros).

Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Finance which Tuesday reported to the House. The transaction was De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) concerned. The bank exchanged the dollars into euros and given it into cash at the central bank in Iran.

The money resulted from a settlement between the US and Iran in a case that was handled by the Iran-US Claims Tribunal in The Hague. It was money from the Iranian government that the Americans had been frozen since 1981. The Americans had asked the Netherlands to act as intermediary.

Dijsselbloem is satisfied that the transaction is completed carefully and successfully. This was according to him, special meaning for relations between the two countries with each other for decades on bad terms.
