moscow - Russian opposition leader Aleksej Navalni can not vote in the presidential elections in his country. According to the electoral commission, the politician is excluded from participation because he has been convicted of a criminal offense.

A court in the city of Kirov sentenced Navalni earlier this year to a conditional imprisonment of five years. He would have guilty of eclipse of converted 250,000 euros at a forestry company. According to the Russian electoral commission, the verdict came into force, so Navalni did not have the passive right to vote.

Navalni is known as a pronounced opponent of President Vladimir Putin. The presidential elections are scheduled for next March, candidates can report officially from December.
