brussels - The threatening language of Russian President Vladimir Putin to NATO countries is 'unacceptable' for the military alliance. His statements are counterproductive, stated in a NATO statement.
Putin said Thursday that Russia has unique (core) missiles that can not trace anti-missile systems. The West must take into account a new reality and understand that Moscow is not bluffing, Putin said.
'We do not want a new Cold War or a new arms race', according to NATO. The alliance adds that the missile defense systems in Europe are not aimed at Russia, but serve as a defense against threats from further afield.
The Alliance says it is approaching Russia with 'strong deterrence and defense combined with a meaningful dialogue' in response to the 'aggressive' actions of Russia in Ukraine and the military building of the Kremlin from the Barents Sea to the Mediterranean.
