Mummies from ice age discovered in melting ice

dawson city - Two mummified animals from the ice age, a wolf pup and a caribou calf (wild reindeer), have been found in the area where the gold rush of Canada took place. The animals were found in 2016 in the melting ice layer in Yukon and unveiled Thursday (local time).

It is very exceptional that fossils still have their fur, skin and muscle tissue, but these carcasses of more than 50,000 years old still have that. The wolf pup is still completely intact, the reindeer calf partially.

'As far as we know, it is the only mummified wolf cub in the world', paleontologist Grant Zazula told The Guardian newspaper. Scientists have reacted delightfully to the discovery and hope to be able to investigate the cause of death, nutrition and animal health.
