harare - Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe opposes attempts to get him to resign. He considers himself the only legitimate leader of Zimbabwe, said a source within the intelligence services.
Mugabe, his wife Grace and at least two prominent allied political allies are allegedly under house arrest in Harare. They apparently demand that the 93-year-old leader be given the opportunity to finish his term of office.
A Catholic priest would mediate between Mugabe and the armed forces, who in fact took power, but denied that there was a coup. The army would like to enable Mugabe, who has been in power for 37 years, to step up in a dignified manner.
