washington - Paul Manafort, former campaign leader of US President Donald Trump, has tried to influence possible witnesses against him. Special prosecutor Robert Mueller has therefore asked the judge to take Manafort back into custody.
This is evidenced by documents submitted by Mueller to the court in Washington on Monday. In February Manafort, who was released by the judge under certain conditions, would have called two members of the so-called Hapsburg Group, a group of European former politicians who would lobby for the Ukrainian government. He also sent them text messages. Manafort wanted to influence their statements and disguise evidence against him, according to the documents.
Mueller conducts research into the links between the Trump and Russia campaign team. He has indicted Manafort for, among other things, fraud and money laundering.
