jakarta - On the ferry that capsized on the Tobameer in North Sumatra on Monday, many more passengers were hitherto assumed. According to the Indonesian authorities, 180 people were missing, previously it was reported that the ferry was carrying 80 passengers. The number of missing persons is three times as large as the capacity of the ship.

The ship ran into problems when it was on its way from Simanindo to Tigaras in bad weather. The circumstances make it more difficult to search for drowning people, said a spokesperson for the Indonesian emergency response service. So far, eighteen survivors have been found and two seem to have been recovered.

Danau Toba is the largest volcanic crater lake in the world, of about 100 by 31 kilometers. The area is popular with tourists. Many Indonesian families celebrated the Sugar Festival on the Samosir Peninsula in recent days.
