budapest - The Hungarian government gets more powers to supervise and deploy the army as there is a heightened threat of terrorism. The parliament was Tuesday accepted a constitutional amendment permitting, the BBC reported Tuesday.

If the government wants to use the increased powers they must get permission from the parliament, which is valid for up to fifteen days. An earlier version of the constitutional amendment went much further, but was stopped for the entire opposition. Governing party Fidesz received the proposal on Tuesday the support of the far-right opposition party Jobbik.

Critics say the new powers go too far and there is no justification for it. Opposition members fear that the new powers will be misused.
