harare - Emmerson Mnangagwa returns to Zimbabwe on Wednesday. It is still uncertain when he is sworn in as Robert Mugabe's successor as president of the African state, Wednesday or Thursday, the ZANU-PF party said.

The 71-year-old Mnangagwa was deprived of his position as Vice President earlier this month by Mugabe. Then he fled to South Africa. The president of the Zimbabwean parliament, Jacob Mudenda, will make announcements on the current situation in the country on Wednesday morning.

Mugabe (93) held on to his status as president for a week before he decided to give up the presidency on Tuesday. His decision prevented a deposition procedure by parliament. After it became known that Mugabe had resigned, tens of thousands of people took to the streets to celebrate.
