Minister of Agriculture Perdue is designated survivor

washington - When US President Donald Trump made his speech on Tuesday evening (local time), one of his ministers was not in the audience. In case of an accident or attack, this is to ensure that the government can continue to exist. This year Agriculture Minister Sonny Perdue (71) was the designated survivor.

The principle is known from the eponymous TV series with Kiefer Sutherland. In it he plays a Minister of Housing who is the only one who survives an attack and is therefore forced to become president.
