Miner finds largest gold nugget ever: 93.5 kilos
kambala - Miner Henry Dole is worth more than his weight in gold. The drill operator of RNC Minerals found a gold clog of 93.5 kilos at a depth of 500 meters in the Beta Hunt mine near Kambala (Australia)!
This is the largest gold nugget ever found. The previous record holder- called Welcome Stranger- weighed 77.5 kilos, according to the Daily Mail. The now found hunk ore- consisting of stone and gold- would be estimated to contain 68 kilograms of gold.
With the giant discovery, the golden day of Doyle- and especially his Canadian employer- was not over yet. Shortly after three employees of the company brought the heavy metal clog to the surface, it was already price: a lump of 63 kilos, good for an estimated 46 kilos of pure gold.
Together with some smaller stuff, Doyle's discovery eventually yielded about 254 kilos of gold nuggets. Estimated value: more than 11.2 million euros. Not bad for a day of drilling.
