Analysts from Scotland were asked by the Waldhaus Am See hotel in Sankt Moritz to test the drink after experts had questioned the authenticity of the drink. The whiskey was donated from an unopened bottle labeled Macallan single malt from 1878, but the analysis eventually showed that it was certainly not distilled for 1970.

Zhang Wei (36) from Beijing had just paid slightly less than 10,000 Swiss francs (8600 euros) for the one-time shot of whiskey during a visit in July. Soon after the purchase, there were suspicions about the origin of the drink, when whiskey experts found traces of cork in the cork.

Probably it is the highest amount ever paid for glass of Scotch whiskey. The hotel has refunded the money.
