toluca - The Mexican drug lord Héctor Beltrán Leyva died on Sunday after heart failure. The 56-year-old has been stuck in Mexico since 2014. He had pain in his chest just before he was taken to the hospital and died there, according to the Ministry of the Interior.
The drug lord was at the head of the infamous Beltrán-Leyva cartel, which he ran with his brothers Alfredo, Arturo, Mario and Carlos. His brother Arturo was killed by the Mexican army in December 2009 and Alfredo is serving life imprisonment in the United States.
The group was affiliated for a time with the Sinaloa cartel of Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzmán. In New York this month the process started against El Chapo.
